As a parent, it’s natural to want your child to have everything they dream of. Very often, this means giving their bedroom a makeover, because every child has a dream bedroom. Since children spend so much time in their bedrooms, it’s important to make it a safe and comfortable space where they can play, learn, and relax. Perhaps you decorated the room to be a nursery, and now your toddler is too old for it… Or maybe you just want to redecorate their room as a birthday gift. Whatever your reasons, this post will guide you through renovating your child’s room.
Start with the walls
It’s always a good idea to start with the biggest tasks and then move on to the smaller (and often more fun) tasks. If your child’s bedroom walls are painted a neutral color, you can keep them that way, of course. If you’re going with a specific theme or color scheme, then painting the walls a specific color or getting a themed wallpaper can help tie everything together. You can even give their ceiling a new look if you install wood paneling on your ceiling.
Reevaluate the furniture
Another big task is trying to figure out what to do in terms of furniture. In some cases, you may need to replace certain items, such as if your child has outgrown their cot and you want to replace it with a bed. You can also move furniture around or paint it if you want to use what you already have. As your child grows older, it’s a good idea to add some pieces of furniture to their room. A desk might be helpful once they start going to school. You should also consider investing in a bookshelf and filling it with the best children’s books.
Stick to a theme
As mentioned above, sticking to a theme is a great idea. If your child has something that they love, like dinosaurs or fairies, they will probably want to have a room with this theme. If you’re worried about them outgrowing a specific interest, you can always choose a color scheme. Doing so will give you some guidance when it comes to choosing things, and it will also make things look more cohesive. If you decide to go with a theme, an easy way of incorporating it is to make a DIY photo hanger and print pictures relating to that theme. This way, you can change it up as their likes change.
Ask their opinion
One problem that many parents face when renovating their children’s bedrooms is that they don’t know what would make their child the happiest. Luckily, there’s an easy solution for this: simply ask them for their opinion. This way, you know that you are picking things that they like. Including them in the process will also help them learn some communication skills. And as you probably know, communication skills in children are very important. Be sure to listen to what your child wants and consider their opinions.
