Thank you to Wayfair for sponsoring this post so I can fill you in on how we lightened up this fall with a living room refresh! All opinions remain 100% my own.
We’ve now lived in our home for eleven years, and I love seeing how the place becomes more and more our own as time passes. When we first moved in, we set up shop in our dark, small living room with whatever furniture was easy to find and grab. Over the years, we’ve continued to make changes, like trading in the dark orange walls for a pale teal color and sprucing up our fireplace with some fresh accents. This fall, I shopped and shopped until I found the perfect TV stand and end tables to lighten up our space for a sweet living room refresh.
Fall Living Room Refresh
In searching for pieces to replace our TV stand and end tables, I had two main considerations: size and color. Our living room is very snug. Everything is placed and fitted in just so, and I didn’t want to change the arrangement of the room. I wanted to swap out the dark wood pieces we had for those of a lighter shade, but relatively the same size. This proved a bit tricky, as the items had to fit pretty tight dimensions. A couple of weeks ago I shared some of the Wayfair items I was sizing up for our living room refresh, and I continued to refine my choices from there.
After MUCH consideration (read: husband running madly around with a measuring tape and endless back and forth between different stains of wood), we finally settled on…
Chatham Square Nightstand
We purchased this in the Reclaimed Barnwood color. I was crushing on Gray Wash, but as my husband and daughter both pointed out, our couch and love seat are gray, so that might have been too much of one shade. These nightstands worked perfectly as end tables. I love that their height is even a bit shorter than the ones we had, which makes it easier to grab drinks or books when you’re chilling on the couch. Their length and width dimension fit our small space, and I was able to easily transfer objects (coasters, remotes, etc.) from our other end tables to the top shelf on these pieces. In one end table, I stashed my knitting supplies. In the other, I put all of my Zumba DVDs and gear I use for my living room workouts. In our first end tables, there was room for blankets, but I used this as a much-needed opportunity to reduce our blanket stash. Now all remaining necessary blankets are safely tucked in the ottoman and well under control 😉
PRO TIP: With every refresh or new furniture purchase, I have always found it to be a super time to get rid of no-longer-used items. Aside from the blankets, we ditched a huge pile of random batteries, cords, chargers, etc. from one of the old end table drawers. Three cheers for de-cluttering!
Guernon TV Stand
Similar to my hunt for end tables, I was eyeing up the grey colors, but we decided on a lighter brown for the tables, we went with the same for a TV stand. Our biggest challenge for a TV stand was definitely finding dimensions that met our small space. There were lots of lovely very simple, no-door or no-drawer options, but we also use our TV stand to house DVDs and electronics, so I wanted some sort of enclosed storage space.
When I found this compact stand, replete with a barn door (you know I love barn doors!), I was sold. I was able to tidily stash almost everything on one side so the barn door hid the contents. Overall, it leaves a clean, chic look that matches the shade of our new end tables, and I love it!
Being able to meet the lighter color and size-mindful requirements of living room refresh was wonderful! I love the look of our new space–it feels more open and airy, which is exactly what I was shooting for from the beginning of this sprucing up project.
