How can you possibly fit a bed, dresser, desk, and whatever else you need in a space that feels like a box? While designing a small space bedroom might be intimidating, it’s not impossible. You just have to be creative and make the most out of what you have. A small space can be incredibly cozy, as long as it’s decorated the right way. Don’t let a smaller room discourage you from pursuing your interior design dreams, just follow these 6 tips to designing a small space bedroom.
6 Tips for Designing a Small Space Bedroom
- Keep it Simple
I know, it’s tempting to buy everything you like when shopping for your bedroom, but you want to avoid that with a small space. When in doubt, go simple. Choose as minimal furniture as possible, and try to get multiple uses out of one piece. For example, combine your vanity and desk into one to save space. You should also go light with other wall decor, possibly keeping everything within a streamlined color scheme.
- Have a Comfy Bed
Since you probably won’t be able to fit a couch or chair in your bedroom, you’ll want to make sure you have an extra comfy bed. You’ll be spending a lot of time on it, you want to enjoy it! Invest in soft sheets, lots of pillows and throw blankets, and a good quality mattress. You’re always better off opting for the best hybrid mattress you can find, which combines foam and spring, so you can enjoy a cooler and cleaner sleep.
- Go for Mounted Lights
With a small space, you will want to maximize counter space and minimize clutter. With that being said, always go for mounted lights rather than table lamps. Mounted lights provide just as much light as table or floor lamps, but take up a fraction of the space.
- Add Mirrors
Adding statement mirrors to your bedroom will instantly make a small space appear bigger and more open. All you have to do is angle a mirror towards a focal point in your room and it will create the illusion that your room is more spacious than it actually is. Hang a couple of mirrors in different shapes and sizes for a more eclectic effect.
- Get Organized
When it comes to a small space, you will want to prioritize organization. Having a messy, cluttered room is going to make your room look way smaller. Aside from always keeping your room clean. you’ll want to be smart and compact with your organization. Bins, shoe racks, and hangers will be your best friends. Store miscellaneous items under your bed and decorate with hanging hooks that provide functionality and style.
- Go Bright
Typically, dark colors make a room look smaller. Opt for lots of light and bright colors instead. Choose a white comforter and furniture and add colorful accents with throw pillows, blankets, and wall decor. Just make sure you stick to a color scheme as too many colors can be distracting and make your room look messy.
While designing a small space bedroom might be intimidating, it can also be fun. You get the opportunity to be creative with your decorating and organizational skills and find ways to make a small room look bigger. Whether that is creating the illusion of a bigger room, mounting lights on the walls, or opting for brighter colors, there are countless ways to design a small space bedroom. Just have fun with it and before you know it, you will have the bedroom of your dreams and you won’t even realize it’s as small as it is.
