A year ago my family fell head over heels for the Embark dog DNA kit after we used them to learn the breeding of both our rescue pups. You see, our dogs are most truly family members, but we knew nothing of their breeding or health indicators. Our little guy, Henry, was literally pulled off the streets, while our female love, Charlie was saved from a high-kill shelter across the country. Not to mention…incredibly fascinating. Embark’s results are truly amazing! From the alleles identification that revealed Charlie’s stump tail was genetic vs. being docked, and the scads of ancestry (down to great-grand-parents!), we were blown away.

Even more fascinating for us was to learn what their breeding actually was. Who knew our jug (jack russell and pug) had some poodle thrown in? And that while Charlie presents as an Australian cattle dog, she is actually rocking pit bull too! Taking the Embark dog DNA tests was a chance to finally learn more about two creatures in our life who mean a ton to us…but would never be able to tell us themselves.
