***Thank you to Beautycounter Consultant Jackie McGeehan for sponsoring this post so I could fill you in on these genius summer skincare hacks!***
Summer is coming!! Hey, hey! Not that I wasn’t super-into that prolonged, horrible winter we had, but…sunshine sounds really sweet right now. And while I’m madly tackling the special “fun” of May and details for our upcoming vacay, there is one other teensy bit I must sort as warm weather approaches–my family’s skincare. What’s that? Yup, skincare. While typically, winter gets top billing for skincare concerns with its harsh, drying effect, the hot months bring their own unique concerns. But stay cool, friends, we’ve got genius fixes! After discovering last year how great Beautycounter’s products are for summer skincare concerns, I asked Skincare Consultant Jackie McGeehan to share her best tips for caring for all of your family’s skin concerns as the weather heats up. Check out these hacks and get ready to beat the heat!
5 Genius Summer Skincare Hacks to Beat the Heat
- Sunburn/exposure to UV rays. Obviously, #1 on any mama’s list of summer skincare concerns is protecting her family’s skin from sun damage. When you spend so many hours outside, it is important to make sure you are smartly covering up with a quality, effective product, and I can’t say enough about Beautycounter’s Sun Protection products. I was thrilled by their face stick and body stick last year–SO easy to apply to kids and toss in your bag. Not only is it residue-free, it is mess-free, it doesn’t run, melt or leak. I’m eager to check out their new Countersun Mineral Sun Protection line too–just released this week and very smart as it is designed to tackle BlueRay light. All of these products, of course, meet Beautycounter’s high-quality standards and are compliant with the stringent The Never List™, a list of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that the company vows to never use as ingredients in any products. The real-life test: my HIGHLY sensitive SPD son begs me to use these sticks and ONLY these sticks. He can’t tolerate the greasy-feeling lotions or powerful odors of so many skincare products. If something runs into his eyes? Forget it, game over. We have now solidly switched over to Beautycounter Sun Protection and won’t be looking back!
- Cracked Heels. Going barefoot or rocking cute sandals all summer is so freeing, but can also land you with painful cracked heels. And lathering up with lotion and socks before bed night after night isn’t a match for this hot weather. My all-time favorite Beautycounter product is the super-popular Cleansing Balm. This singular product can do SO MUCH! It is a true rockstar. See graphic below for some of the many uses, and as for those cracked heels? Put some on those tootsies and cover with socks. Cracks nearly gone after just one treatment! Continue for completely soft heels.
- Frequent washing. I most used the Cleansing Balm last summer as a 4-in-1 make-up remover, cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. This was super convenient when I was hopping in the shower mid-day after time at the beach or pool. In one step, I could give my face quality skincare attention before hopping off to our next summertime activity. As it didn’t overly moisturize or dry my face, it was perfect, and easily repeated at bedtime. Clean, happy facial skin despite all of summer’s busyness is a definite win! And still need to moisturize? I know, me too…I LOVE Beautycounter’s Countermatch line, as it’s specifically designed to meet YOUR needs. And your needs can change by season–mine definitely do! In winter, my dry skin craves moisture; in summer, it wants nothing to do with added moisturizing.
- Poison Ivy. This is another Beautycounter Cleansing Balm win. Jackie recently treated her child for poison ivy with this and as she describes, “I can’t believe how much it reduced the inflammation and redness [on a huge patch of poison ivy]. After 3 applications you can barely see it!”. When you and your family are out and about playing, hiking and exploring summer, having Cleansing Balm on hand as a remedy is a smart move, mama!
- Humidity. As much as we crave sunny days, we all-too-well know the stickiness that comes along with them! Do your face a favor with the Charcoal Cleansing Bar and sweep away all that dirt and sweaty grossness in one fell swoop. As for your hair? Beautycounter offers a full range of smart haircare. As a naturally curly gal who rocks the wash and go approach to (non)styling, I LOVE Beautycounter’s Smooth and Control line for summer’s humidity. The Hair Oil is genius for keeping frizz at bay! As for makeup? Start with the genius Dew Skin base; Dew Skin Moisturizing Coverage is a multi-tasker with SPF, hydration, and a light base coverage. Foundation is heavy and has no place in the heat, but Dew Skin is a perfect solution to keep you looking polished without weighing down your skin. Humidity has met its match with these fixes!

All of these products look quite amazing for summer time. I would be happy to try any and all, especially the treatment for poison ivy. See at least once during the summer my husband ends up dealing with this doing gardening in our own backyard. We have had it professionally removed. But in the past it somehow comes back still. So that treatment does sound like it does wonders.
Jackie says
It really is a multitasker! And as with all BC products a little goes a long way. It comes with a muslin/linen type cloth to wash it off. You apply it to dry skin and remove with warm water/cloth. You won’t believe how soft your face feels afterwards. Awesome eye make up remover too. If you would like to give it a try Here is the link:) thanks for the reply:)

Something quick and easy with 3 small kiddos sounds right my alley with the sun face and body sticks! Also would love to take my frizz and try the hair oil!!
Jackie says
Thank you for your comment! Sunscreen has been so good for our family. And with my 4 fairhaired, freckle faced boys it protects them without making them look like Casper. It spreads so easily!
Here is the link to the face stick if you are interested. The body stick/mist can be accessed through this link as well.

Jackie says
The Smooth and Control oil is great too Bc you only need a tiny bit to tame those flyaways.
Heidi says
I love, love, love the Countermatch line, and I’d be thrilled to try any of the sunscreens as my skin doesn’t love any of the conventional brands!
Jackie says
Hi Heidi,
The Countermatch line is fabulous isn’t it!? The sunscreen is awesome Bc it spreads so evenly and nicely without feeling like you are wearing a mask on your whole body. And doesn’t leave you looking white like most mineral based sunscreens.
Amy Waltermyer says
Would love, love, love to try the sunscreen products! I’m always looking for a safe alternative to use on my family, and this seems to be the perfect answer!!

Jaime Barber says
Love the face stick. Easy to use I myself and the kids. Perfect size for easy application. Beauty Counter’s sunscreen is THE ONLY sunscreen that my daughter, Allyson, can tolerate. All others make her itch and break out in a rash. Great summer products!!
Jackie says
Thanks for commenting, Jaime! Glad Allyson finally found something that doesn’t make her react!
Dawn Decker Koller says
I always like to try new products! These look great!
Maureen Digby says
Dawn, you will love them!!
Jackie says
Thanks for commenting Dawn! Beautycounter has a 60 day (from date it was shipped) money back guarantee – that includes shipping fees! That’s how confident they are that you will love their products!
Maryanne calvillo says
THEY all look great but I wouldn’t love sunscreen for me and my daughter since I tender to burn quickly but the cracked heel are always a problem for me.
Jackie says
Maryann, I’m right there with you. Our Irish skin gets burned walking past a sunny window! And we spend so much time outdoors. BC sunscreen has kept us fully protected while in the pool all day or at the beach! Reapplying, every so often of course when in and out of the water.
Maureen Digby says
Love my Beautycounter products! And while I may ultimately be a bit biased, my choice in Beautycounter came after searching long and hard for safer products only to be disappointed by performance. Beautycounter offers both while also advocating for more health protective laws in a virtually unregulated multi-billion dollar industry. My desert island favs are the Cleansing Balm and Dew Skin! And this time of year the sunscreen (excited about the new mist!!–oh and by the way it not only is safe for us, it also is safe for our oceans–WIN WIN!), Sugar Body Scrub, Sea Salt Spray and Smooth & Control oil also make the favs list.
Jackie says
Couldn’t agree more, Maureen!
KATHY GILLIN says
I really like the line of Countermatch products and #3 Characoal Soap, mask and toner for the oilier, larger pore areas of my face. Especially, I love the safety of their use.
Definitely using the Sunscreen products throughout the summer.
Thanks Jackie MCGEEHAN for keeping me current on what’s new in clean, safe skin care with Beautycounter.
Carley says
I’m feeling like I need to try the Cleansing Balm!! I’ve been hearing about Beautycounter but have yet to give any of the products a try.
Jackie says
Carly, thanks for commenting! The cleansing balm is a real multitasker! It’s one of my go to’s and a little goes a long way!! I am thrilled to have discovered Beautycounter for my family’s needs and feel good knowing this is one of the safest out there.

Jennifer Volcko says
I have severe photosensitivity on my face, and get a red itchy rash from sun exposure. Beautycounter sunscreen is the only sunscreen that prevents this for me…can’t live without it.
Jackie says
Jennifer, that is so great to hear!! Thanks so much for sharing.
Cherith Pollock says
I’d love to try the sunscreen. Sounds convenient and safe!
Jackie says
Cherith,
My family and I love it. Especially since I don’t have to spend a ton of time rubbing it it. Feels so nice and spreads so easily. You know with our Irish skin we can’t go without it! 😉😉
Lindsay says
Oooo I need sunscreen that’s natural and love the sound of a face stick!!
Jackie says
Sunscreen is amazing! Non-greasy formula and spreads so nicely!! Good for the whole family!
Kathy Radigan says
All the products look amazing but the poison ivy cream is one I’m most interested in. My husband gets the worst poison ivy!! Thanks for the info. These products really look lovely.
Christina Franks says
Definitely the face and body sticks. With three young kids Sunscreen is a full time job that takes forever!
Jackie says
Christine, with 4 kids of my own and always a house full of extras:) I get this!!! That is actually one of the things that made me switch exclusively. Spreads so easily! So I don’t spend an hour trying to rub it in to each kids skin! And now they have a non-aerosol spray. Win!
Lene Heunis says
Both Beauty Counter products and their warrior – Jackie – are awesome! I’m building up my stash of these safe and clean BC products, bit by bit, and would love to try the cleansing balm soon. Yes to chemical free, environmentally conscious products. We owe it to ourselves and our planet 💙💜
Jackie says
Amen! Warrior sister! Xo
