True story: my husband and I are rather abysmal at taking our children out to eat. But when Grand Lux Cafe contacted me and asked to host our family for brunch so I could share our experience with you in this sponsored post, I was intrigued. Intrigued enough to put aside my general fear of taking my circus show to civilized public places and check out Grand Lux Cafe’s website.
And then I saw their menu.
And I started to drool.
And I called my husband and said, “Hey, guess what’s doing this Sunday?”.
So off we went, feeling very daring and very fancy. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted and seated by the hostess, who stole the hearts (and busy hands) of my children by hooking them up with Wikki Stix. While the kids were occupied crafting with these genius twisty sticks, my husband and I had leisure to peruse the brunch menu (served both Saturdays and Sundays at Grand Lux Cafe).
I’d be lying if I didn’t say making our selections was very difficult–because everything on the menu sounded fantastic. In honor of upcoming International Waffle Day, March 25, 2016, my husband was sold on the Fried Chicken and Waffles, and I decided to go with the delectable Crab and Asparagus Omelette. My daughter chose the Red Velvet Pancakes, while my son, also in the spirit of International Waffle Day, went with the timeless choice of a plain made-from-scratch waffle.
Mouth watering yet? I know. But listen, I haven’t even gotten to the most indulgent part–as an appetizer, we ordered the fresh-made (whipped up at the time your order is placed) Breakfast Beignets. And since the kids were so happily occupied, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to The Grand Mimosa and a Strawberry Bellini.
Friends, there are those rare moments in life with young kids when you look around and think, “Dang! We can do this.“And this last Sunday at Grand Lux Cafe was a glorious one of those moments. The kids were happy (Wikki Stix + the most delicious pancakes ever known to this earth [seriously, run, don’t walk to snatch up an order of those Red Velvet Pancakes, the most incredible pancakes I’ve ever tasted] = content young ones), Mommy and Daddy were chilling with our beverages and nibbling on heavenly bites of those beignets, and all was right with the world. We were out and about, in a very kid-friendly place, delighting in treats and…it was working.
Shoot, it was the kind of situation that works so well, you are fed with courage to repeat it. But I’d be remiss not to credit the majority of our successful venture to Grand Lux Cafe itself. The food was truly exceptional, the staff amenable and quickly responsive to the needs of dining out with kids (extra napkins ASAP? on it!), and the environment marked with a delightfully pampering, relaxed vibe.
After this experience, I can now say, “My husband and I don’t brunch often, but when we do, it’s at Grand Lux Cafe.” Lest this seems hype for this post, I promise it is not. It may be a light year and a day before we rally up the courage to again venture out for a morning brunch with the kids, but will we return to Grand Lux Cafe? Yes. Yes, please!
Go celebrate International Waffle Day with Grand Lux Cafe, friends! It’s a delightful treat for the whole family!
***Many thanks to Grand Luxe Cafe for hosting our family for brunch for review purposes for this post. Our delight in our meal is 100% genuine!***

Is it bad to have brunch – after you’ve had breakfast – and still have lunch? Asking for a friend. How is it possible I’ve never had chicken and waffles?
Meredith says
Tell your friend that is definitely a good plan 😉
