Until very recently, our bed was a tragic throwback to a college dorm room mishmash gone wrong. None of the colors matched or even remotely coordinated. They clashed with the walls. Instead of sighing in relaxation whenever I walked into our bedroom, I winced.
I tried explaining to my husband that I would like our bedroom to have a different “feel”. He said, “What do you mean? The sheets feel soft enough to me.” I explained that no, I meant the colors were a bit dark. He suggested I try turning on the light. I gave up.
I gave up until I found myself browsing on Wayfair.com. My clicky finger made its way over to the Pillows and Throws page on and I had a flash of inspiration. What if I actually found a way to make that peaceful respite I dreamed about happen without spending a ton? My wheels got to turning…a fresh cover, a few throw pillows…this could happen!
I knew the look I wanted–something calm, soothing, light. Using Wayfair’s user-friendly search options, I was able to quickly pare down my search by color, material, price and care (strictly machine-wash for me–maybe in another life I’ll have more time for hand washing??). Despite narrowing my options, the selection was still full of so many tempting items!
I really liked the texture of this cable-knit throw. It would feel like I was throwing a cozy sweater on my bed!
The muted stripes in this woven cotton throw were so soft and gorgeous:
The print of this pillow was so eye-catching:
I can’t get over how light and airy the gentle soft print of these pillows is!
After having too much fun browsing around all that Wayfair has to offer on their Pillows and Throws page, I finally settled in on my selections. Take a look below and let me know what you think!
Despite all the beautiful prints I found, I figured nothing would give me the freshness of a white throw. I found this one that came with two pillow shams in a quilt set:
I had found a delicate vine print flannel sheet set on sale a bit ago, but wasn’t sure I would be able to make it work with the new look I was shooting for, until I found these accent pillows (in oblong and square shape):
Faux leather isn’t typically my style, but I thought it would be the perfect way to add a more masculine touch to the softer print cover and white throw. I also love the definition the play of textures adds to our bed. Not to mention, these pillows are aces at holding up to all the lovin’ my kids give them!
I am tickled with the results and get a little giddy when I climb in bed each night. I feel like my place of respite and calm has finally been created. Not that I am elated to boot that scattered college dorm room vibe or anything…

Damn girl! We use that ratty blanket for our dogs, but don’t think my husband hasn’t tried to cozy me up with it on cold nights. Hashtag EW. Looks beautiful!

This made me snort so hard–thank you.

I’ve been looking at poufs for the boys’ loft area in our new house. I may have to skedaddle over to see if I can find something.
Meredith says
I love that you have a loft area–what a cool thing for kids!

Beautiful!!! I bet Dr. J loves it too!
Meredith says
I’m not sure he notices all that much, but he did seem to make a general thumbs up 😉

This is so relatable!!! I love the transformation of your room and how you incorporated a bit of masculinity. 🙂

Thanks, Sarah! So appreciate you checking in!

Sold! Headed over right this minute, because that cable throw MUST be mine! By the way, I am the before picture, too. It is sad, really. The only difference is that I have a king-sized bed, which means I have more room for bed clutter! ;)-Ashley
Meredith says
Ha! You and all your king-sized clutter are perfect!

I love it! I spent a ton of money on a Calvin Klein set like 10 years ago and I LOVE it. Problem? The blanket thing which is a combo of linen and silk got all ripped and I didn’t find anything I liked as much so I spent $90 getting it repaired and now? Ripping again, after like 6 months. Gah. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Meredith says
Gah indeed! That is the worst when you fall in love with something, and then it falls apart! I’ll bet it’s beautiful, though, Kristi! 🙂

So, we have a bedding set that I like AND it matches our curtains, but I never make our bed. Where do you keep the pillows when you sleep and will you actually put them all back on each day? Ours basically started living on the floor and got kicked around and are now in a closet! Pointers??
Meredith says
This is SUCH a good question. Do you remember in Along Came Polly all the neat stacking of the pillows on the bed? I feel like this when I do arrange them in the morning! But I don’t always…love the look when I do, but that’s a lot of energy, I know. Also, my husband hates extra pillows and falls asleep before me, so there ends up being a pillow moat on my side of the bed I trip over when I go to pee at night. So darn, this isn’t really helpful at all. Maybe in another life we’ll have more time for all that pillow arranging? 😉

Wow that looks beautiful!!!!! My room could use a little pick me up, I think I may have to do mosey over there!! Thanks!

Crazy how even a small new touch can make a huge difference!

White is always soothing! If I have to choose, I’ll have an all white bedroom, haha! But my toddler loves to jump up and down our bed so it may not be a good idea to have entirely white sheets for now. I love your selections though! It really just takes a matter of sprucing things up a little bit and everything looks so new.
Meredith says
Rea, I’m with you! I have long-fantasized about all white bedding. Between the kids and the dog…we’re going to have A LOT of washing on our hands! 🙂
