We moved into our house four years ago and one of my favorite parts is our deck. Come summertime, we are living out there. All of our meals, “Mommy can’t take any more! Go outside!” playtime, pool breaks–you name it, we’re there. In the evening, throw in a light breeze with the rope lighting and cicada rhythms, and it becomes the grooviest hangout around.
We love our deck, and I’m loathe to make a single complaint about our magical space, but I do have one…it’s not comfy. In fact, it’s rather sterile. At one point, we did have cushions for the bench, but they got too stained and yucky, so now it’s just a hard, uninviting bench. The entire deck is one color, so it looks bland too. It doesn’t exactly scream “pretty inviting space”.
The Before
I’m all about the power of aesthetics to soothe the soul. So when Wayfair invited me to check out their line of area rugs, I was pretty tickled. We don’t have money to replace the custom-made bench cushions now, but I think a few throw pillows and a colorful rug on the floor would really warm up the space. Time to check out what Wayfair has to offer!
I love the neutral tones of the Jute and Sistal area rugs, but I really wanted some thing with a little color to brighten up our deck. It took to Wayfair’s Shop the Look page to find some inspiration. Shop the Look is a great place to start to get ideas–and fun to use too.
Not quite the color scheme I had in mind, but I love the way the pillows pop out the rug color in this design by Wayfair.
So I went on the hunt for a colorful rug, and after much debate (there are so many choices!), I settled on this one:
To add comfort to the bench and make the color pop even more, I found these accent pillows:
The transformation? Pretty cool! A little easier on the eyes–and my back–for all those late-evening hang-outs!

First of all, I think your deck is already awesome and I have total deck envy because we don’t have one. I also see a pool in the backround which kind of makes me want to kick you in the jeans.
I’ll ignore all that, however, in the hopes you will invite me over sometime when I’m in the area. I can’t wait to see the finished product. We have a small totally hoosier patio slab and this year we bought one of those outdoor rugs. It TOTALLY transformed it and now it’s not quite an eyesore!
