So this blogging gig is not always cool. The pay-out is poor, the time commitment immense, and someone is always grouchy regarding whatever it is I’m writing about, BUT…there are times I love my job. There are times Edy’s sends me coupons for free ice cream and asks me to review new flavors and then write what I think about them. Let me restate that again to be clear: I GET PAID TO EAT ICE CREAM.
Right, so this is amazingly fantastic…Here is the situation: July is National Ice Cream Month (woo-hoo!) and to celebrate, Edy’s has come out with 4 limited edition flavors. In general, I am a GINORMOUS ice cream fan, so I’m not sure I have the most discerning palate, but here’s my breakdown:
German Chocolate Cake Spectacular: I don’t love chocolate-based ice cream flavors (something is wrong with me, I know), but the brownie pieces swirled in? YUM.
3 Stripes You’re Out: Blueberry and Strawberry Swirls? Enough said. Pass me the ice cream scoop and I’m a happy camper.
Sunny Salted Caramel Pretzel: It’s yummy, creamy and delicious, but my husband’s assessment broke my heart and made me want to buy a second chest freezer to stash up. He said, “It reminds me of Sunday afternoons at Great-Grandma’s house when she would always serve pretzels with ice cream. I’ll never forget that…” *wipes stray tears from eyes*
Take The Cake: Anyone know Bruster’s Birthday Cake ice cream? Yeah, that, except cheaper and with all the taste and 1/2 the fat (with 1/2 the fat and 1/3 fewer calories than regular ice cream)–as per all of Edy’s Slow Churned Light Ice Cream in over 20 delicious flavors. So beyond awesome that I Skyped my very-busy-and-important-because-she-has-an-awe-inspiring-career-as-a-professional-psychologist friend in AZ and made her look at the carton as I held it up to the laptop. She’s incredible. And this ice cream is that good. If Edy’s doesn’t decide to make this a permanent flavor, I will hyperventilate, locate their home offices, beat on the doors and cry loudly for days. That’s a promise.
Okay, so I obviously love the ice cream, but what is the best part about Edy’s summer lovin’? They are supporting Operation Smile, an international children’s medical charity, which makes 500 reconstructive surgeries for children world-wide with cleft palatate or other facial deformities. On their facebook page, Edy’s posts “A Reason to Smile” ways to particpate–such as liking, sharing, and commenting. They will donate up to $125,000 to Operation Smile this year through 9/30/13. Head over to Facebook to help them out or join in on Twitter or Instagram at #ReasontoSmile.
Want to try some of this ice cream yourself for free? Just leave a comment below by Sunday, 7/21/13 at 5am EST, and if you’re 18 or older and live in the continental U.S., you’ll be entered to win two coupons for Edy’s ice cream. Sweet, sweet stuff, I know!
This post is brought to you by Edy’s and The Motherhood. I was provided with product coupons and compensated for my time, but all opinions are mine.
UPDATE 7/22: Congrats to Toni for the winning entry and claiming her yummy free ice cream!
