I love Seventh Generation products. They make the whole parenting thing a bit easier by giving me one less thing to worry about–this is always a good thing in my book ;). Because I know this company has such a great reputation for safe products, I am free to use their stuff without any concerns for my little ones’ health. When Seventh Generation partnered with Healthy Child, Healthy World to promote the best for our kids, it sounded like a wonderful idea to get on board.
The facts are scary, to put it mildly. Since kids are more vulnerable to the risks of chemical exposures than adults due to their small size and quickly growing bodies, it makes sense that toxic products are especially a threat to them. While the European Union has banned 1,328 chemicals for use in personal care products, only 11 chemicals have been banned or restricted in the U.S. Check this out–the primary U.S. law that regulates chemicals in everyday products hasn’t been updated in more than 35 years! Research continues show that these chemicals likely cause or contribute to increased childhood behavioral disorders and disease, including cancer (reference: A Wake Up Story for more info).
Like, I said, it’s scary stuff.
What can you do to protect your family? Healthy Child, Healthy World has made a whole list of steps you can take to promote a healthy, safer lifestyle. And an awesome part? Most of them are free or very affordable. Who knew things such as taking your shoes off at the door or opening your windows could make such a huge difference? I’ve also learned that avoiding toxic body care products, canned products and processed foods is also so important. To read more about this, visit their website, where you can also download the free e-book, Easy Steps for a Healthy and Safe Nursery.
What can you do to help promote a healthy life for kids everywhere? Right now The Chemical Safety Improvement Act, legislation that would work to protect our families from toxic chemicals, is before Congress. Contact your senator to ask him or her to strengthen and pass this act. Easy peasy–just a click to find and message your senator.
Seventh Generation has also teamed up with Healthy Child, Healthy World to sponsor Healthy Baby Home Parties. What are they? It’s a way for moms and caregivers to educate others and spread awareness of the dangers of chemicals in their own homes. Starting next week, there will be 2,000 of these parties happening in communities all over. You can get more information and tips along with a $1 E-coupon from the Healthy Baby Home Party website.
For even more information and to join others in discussing ways you can protect your family, hop in on the Twitter party with @TheMotherhood & @SeventhGen #HealthyBaby tomorrow, 6/25/13 at 1pm EST. RSVP: http://bit.ly/12Rt2Fw
Seventh Generation’s approach to addressing the problem is three-fold:
• Chemicals are guilty until proven innocent
• Eliminate known hazards
• Take a precautions when uncertainty exists
Seventh Generation is a good company, and this is a good and important campaign. Smart thing to get behind, and I’m glad for the chance to do so. Anything that can help our kids and not cost extra money sounds fantastic!
And since we all love their products so much, you’ve got a chance to score some of their products for yourself! To throw your name in the hat to win a Seventh Generation product basket, just leave a comment below telling us what you love about this company, this campaign, or their products by 5am EST on Thursday, 6/27/13. As long as you are resident of the continental U.S. and 18 or older, you are eligible.
And if you don’t win the basket and happen to be one of those people I force to hang out with me IRL? I may have a boatload of product samples to share. Oh dear–have I really sunk so low that I am bribing friendship with laundry detergent samples? Yes, yes I have…
