This season of hearts and flowers probably has a lot of us thinking about love. At the very least, it’s got us panicking in the card aisle of the grocery store while we grasp to pick out a sweet card for our hubbies while shoving fruit snacks at our kids to buy a few extra minutes.
We’re not huge on Valentine’s Day celebrations around here, but I do love the tribute to my husband that I wrote last year, while nearing my mother’s death. And I thought I could take a few minutes now to talk about what love looks like around our house these days…
Love is when the latest box of blog sponsorship bling arrives at the door, and we all pretend to be excited about it, even if its not that great because it allows Mommy to feel like she is “contributing something”.
Love is when the toast is burned, but we pretend its not because the morning is a crazy mess and we don’t want Mommy to lose her crap.
Love is when the dog allows my daughter to ride him and and yell “Go!” because she thinks he is a horsey. Pretty sure he starts to envision a peaceful early death at this point, but he never objects.
Love is when a friend joyfully watches my daughter so I can host the preschool Valentine’s Day party for my son’s class. Even though I have no idea what hosting a preschool Valentine’s party means.
Love is when watching Modern Family 3 days post-air date is a very special treat. Veritably, an in-house date night if you will.
Love is when it’s fun to throw 1,000 tiny crafting beads up in the air because they make a neat noise and we’re allowed to do it again. Mommy loathes crafts, in case you missed this.
Love is when Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey actually starts to become kind of cute after watching it 64 times in a row. Hey Kayla is really a sweet elephant, as far as talking blue animated elephants go.
So it isn’t pretty. It isn’t perfect. It isn’t even close to ideal. But in this house, this is love. I’ll take it. Happy Valentine’s, readers.
