We’ve started doing our own version of a draft pick around here come leaf-changing season.

Why, oh why, are there so many incredibly awesome-looking shows rolled out each fall? When you figure in all of the returning shows to which we’ve pledged our undying loyalty, the new ones that are catching our eye, and oh, the fact that we have little to no time to actually watch TV, you’ve gotta be smart about this. So getting our geek going, we whip out our laptops and planners and do a sit-down. We hash out our viewing plan–making bids and cuts. It can easily get quite dicey.
And even if a new show makes the cut, its future as one of our obsessions is not clearly established. My husband is pretty ruthless. He gives a show exactly two episodes to prove itself. If it performs poorly, it’s out–no exceptions. I’m more of the “Oh, but it looks so good in the previews! Let’s keep giving it a chance” mindset and tend to watch shows like Miss Match until the network officially boots them from the air. (Yes, am still mourning the loss of this show, as well as Pushing Daisies and Windfall–LOVED them).
So what shows did make our line up this fall?
The Office. It’s the last season. It’s the perfect little bizarre world of a show, and I will cry over the fact that I never got to watch CeeCee grow up. I’m trying to handle this with grace and class, and accept the passage of time and whatnot, but…

The Mindy Project. Obviously. We all know I have a epic girl crush on Mindy Kaling. Should this show somehow fail, I will probably try to second-mortgage my house to try and convince my gal to eek out more episodes (okay, fine, at least another 1.5 seconds of airtime given the amount of airtime my money could actually buy).
Revolution. Yes, we are grasping at straws trying to find a replacement for Lost. Not sure this show is it, but I thought the pilot was pretty darn good. We’ve only seen one episode so far, so it has to pass muster to continue past my husband’s two-off, but I am cross-finger hoping. It would be fun to have a cool new non-comedy show to watch together.

Parks and Recreation. Leslie Knope. Leslie Knope. LESLIE KNOPE. I feel like she is me, in a very politically-obsessed and energetic version of myself. Also, Tom Haverford and Ron Swanson. Great, incredibly smart show.
Parenthood. Best show ever. Tears, laughs, heart-warming every time. Plus, there are a lot of crushes for me in this show as well. Love, love, love Monica Potter and Dax Shepherd. Am also really falling for Sam Jaeger and Craig T. Nelson. The show is hands-down the best encapsulation of what TV should be.
And darn it, if CBS could just get on board with On Demand this season, I could so easily get on board with 2 Broke Girls. I managed to catch a couple episodes last season, loved it, but alas, my old school DVDR doesn’t allow for easy recording, so if it’s not On Demand, it’s not happening…let’s cross fingers on this one too.
What about you? What’s in your queue for the season?
