So perhaps I’m a season too early, but I love, love the movie Elf. It’s ridiculous. It’s funny. It’s ridiculously funny. The most laughable parts are in the beginning, which works out well, since apparently my capacity to stay awake for longer than 20 minutes into any movie was expelled from my body simultaneous to the birth of my children. I start to nod off just when the movie starts to take the more heart-felt, serious turn (not that the turn is bad–the one time that I stayed awake for the second half of the movie, it was really very sweet). In any case, the result is that I get all of the giggles sans the drama, which conveniently has become the goal of my 30s.

One of my favorite lines is when Will Ferrell self-depreciates himself by saying that he is acting like a “cotton-headed ninny-muggin”. In general, I seem to have an over-exposure with cotton-headed ninny-mugginism in my life. I certainly act like an idiot more times than not (for examples, read previous blog entries–any of them). I also encounter examples from other people on a regular basis. Such as? Loving on the person who told me that I obviously have loads of time to read since I’m a SAHM. And very classy when “a friend” who was super-eager about her planned shopping spree with her mother informed that I couldn’t understand how cool this would be since I don’t a) have money or b) have a living mother. Yes, in general, I heart people.
But I don’t fault these people. We’re human, so we’re going to say some dumb stuff sometimes. It’s just the way it goes. I think we’re all more cotton-headed ninny-mugginish than not. The fun comes when we can just admit that we’re being stupid and strive to be a little less fool-hardy the next time around. In the meantime, can someone get me this shirt? I need it to help with my self-identification efforts;)
