Okay, so when did the magazines my mother used to read become cool? Did Ladies’ Home Journal and Redbook suddenly totally rework themselves or am I the one who changed? After focusing on parenting magazines last week, this week I’m looking at magazines for the ladies. When my dear friend R gifted me with a one-year subscription to Redbook, I’ll admit, I was skeptical. Then it arrived, I read it, quickly fell in love, and am now incredibly grateful to her–thanks R! Somehow I also ended up getting a free subscription to LHJ too, and I’m officially loving on this genre of women’s magazines. The articles apply to me–mom, wife, general “modern lady”. Jillian Michaels, my exercise queen, was on the cover of LHJ last month and Melissa McCarthy, a carryover crush from my Gilmore Girls obsession, also recently graced the cover. These magazines are relevant and fresh, with great features and awesome interviews. They are chock full of helpful advice that I actually use.

It’s slow-going on my abysmal magazine pile, but I do an inner happy dance whenever one of these newly found treasures finds its way to the top of the stack. Yes, I’ll keep working through my parenting mags, and my love affair with Us Weekly isn’t ending anytime soon, but I am throroughly delighted with these mags. Albeit, I’m still very confused–when my mother got these magazines, they were obviously written for “older women” who clearly didn’t have a clue about the world, but something (or possibly someone–me?? 😉 ) has changed. Perfect for me and I’m loving them.
