I love consignment stores. I also love yard sales, kids’ outgrown sales, the infamous Kohls clearance racks (with a coupon in hand obviously) and any place that I can score an extreme bargain and feel pumped-up proud because of all the money I’m saving. So when a new local consignment shop opened up, I was so stoked to check it out. And super-good news: it only took me a month and a half after they opened to figure out childcare so I could go troll through the clothing racks sans little helping hands! 😉

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I hit Kismet and was a goner. This place was awesome. My haul included a brand-new with tags Gap sundress, new Talbots sweater (also with tags), two Ann Taylor LOFT shirts, another t-shirt, two pairs of new-looking Stride Rite shoes for my daughter, and a puzzle for my son for $64.23!! If I was a 50 Shades of Grey fan (decidedly not), you could actually see my Inner Goddess doing a happy dance at this point.

It was a very cool shopping trip and then got even cooler when as I was checking out, I started talking to Kelly, the very sweet shop owner. I learned that Kismet was now breaking into baby/toddler items as well. She encouraged me to stop by with some of my kids’ outgrown clothing. A few days later, I did and am now thrilled to be actually finding a way to unload some of our stuff and make cash in the process!
If you are looking for a fun gift to give, “Kismet Kids” is also breaking into selling some new kids’ items such as handmade barrettes, headbands, and bow holders. They are also featuring some things from from the L’il Darlings line (burp cloths, full-size body bibs, blankets, kids craft aprons) which (as Kelly told me) have been purchased by celebs such as Tori Spelling and Denise Richards. Sounds fancy and always neat to get something a little different than the typical Babies ‘R Us stuff (wait for next week’s review…), right?

Above all, I just adore Kismet’s philosophy. On their website, they detail the importance of not clinging to material goods on this earth and allowing your unused stuff to be put to good use by someone else. There are quotes such as “What is no longer useful to you can be reused by someone else” and “Too much stuff complicates our lives” adorning their site. In a constant effort to simplify my life, this ideology is so working for me.
While Kismet may not be in your neck of the woods, this post is an overall shout-out to consignment shops everywhere. Go snag an amazing deal, unload some goods to someone who can use them, and maybe earn a little money in the process!
