The Demise of TomKat

In a world where celebrities marry and divorce more frequently than I can get in a trip to the grocery store, this probably shouldn’t count as a big deal.  And for someone who is not a Tom Cruise fan, it’s crazy that I’ve basically dedicated the entire summer of my blog to him (okay, this is the second time I’ve mentioned him in two weeks, but still…).  But I’ve always been a Katie Holmes-lover, and I won’t lie–initially I let out a “Whew!” when I heard the news that she and Tom were divorcing.  What celeb gossip rag aficionado didn’t fear a little for Katie that she was somehow trapped in a scary cult-ish world from which she couldn’t escape?  (Obviously, my concern would matter to her since we’ve been besties in my head ever since her Joey on Dawson’s Creek days…)  After my initial relief that my sweet gal pal wasn’t being held captive, I then felt…sad.  Yes, it’s not like I’m being personally hurt or inconvenienced in any way–I mean, I don’t have to update my Christmas card list or anything, but…

And what about Suri?  Okay, sure, if I had to pick I don’t really like the kid.  It’s just scary that she wears high heels at her age.  She sets a ridiculously high standard of fashion for little girls.  Also, I’m jealous of her name.  If I had named my child Suri, people would have thought I was crazy.  TomKat does it and somehow it is so crazily cool (will my children ever be that cool?  Dang!  Maybe I too should have just made up totally random names for them…)  Regardless of what I think about her, I know this girl has a long life in the spotlight ahead of her…hope despite their demise as a couple, TomKat keep it going as parents for this little one.  And Katie, this Mom of the Year will always be in your corner–for vent sessions, tripping down the memory lane of Dawson’s Creek or playdates 😉
