Yankee Candle Man Candles: The Monday Review

Yankee Candle just rolled out a new “Man Candles” line.  The four featured scents are: Riding Mover, 2×4, First Down and Man Town.  General disclaimer: I have not smelled any of these candles, would probably enjoy some, if not all, of them if I did, and I always love me a good Yankee candle.  However,  the concept of these candles raises a lot of questions.  First, one wonders what in the world these things smell like.  As my sister said, what is the fragrance of a first down?  Even greater quandry: pray tell, WHAT THE HECK IS MAN TOWN?!  Someone my husband works with suggested they just call it “Frat House” and be done with it.  Who knows?  Perhaps it is an amazing scent.

 Aside from how the actual candles smell, I am especially fascinated by the accompanying accessories, such as the football Illuma-lid and the beer mug “jar clinger” (as pictured to the side).  There are loads of men who enjoy candles, but as my husband noted, I personally don’t know many men who would be over the moon to receive candle accessories as Father’s Day gifts.   Again, I could be way wrong on this.  The accessories part just seems a bit antithetical to the “rough and tumble” ethos of the Man Candle line.

But despite my initial “Yankee must be losing their mind with this marketing ploy” thoughts, it turns out a big “Go you!” is order for Yankee Candles.  Apparently these candles are creating quite a stir:

Someone in their creative department must have gotten in touch with their inner Don Draper, because Yankee is getting a boatload of attention and publicity from the introduction of these candles…

All this said, I think the beer mug is adorable and I am kind of hoping that there may be a 2×4 at some point in my future–somehow seems like it would be soothing to the senses??  Dang, Yankee–why couldn’t you break these out in time for Mother’s Day?!
