This is a re-post of Smartphone Fantasies from 3.18.12 b/c TODAY IS THE BIG DAY!! My family is finally shirking our 80s-style clunkers and ringing in the new century! Happy Smartphones Day to us!! Not that I’m excited or anything…;) Now, while this isn’t actually a review b/c I won’t actually own a smartphone until later today, this is a tribute to the lifestyle I am now envisioning…
Current phone I am using… Yes, along with shout-out to the notorious Zach Morris 🙂 |
Exactly 3 months from today, we will FINALLY be breaking into the world of smartphones–praise God, we will have arrived! The sob story in a nutshell: almost 2 yrs. ago in an attempt to be a cool Mom of the Year and have a fun splash session in the baby pool with my son, I dropped my cell phone in the water. Securing a new phone required reupping with T-Mobile for a 2 yr. contract–done, no problem, right? Then about, oh, 5 days, 3 hrs. and 27 minutes later (but who is bitterly keeping track?), we moved into our new home only to discover that WE GET NO CELL PHONE RECEPTION IN THE HOUSE. Fantabulous. In a true shout-out to pioneer-esque deprivation, we have withstained from breaking contract and getting a different service that actually works in our home. We have also refused to renew with T-Mobile by getting new phones when both my husband’s and my phones went to crap–I am currently using an old school model from approximately 1980 that we dug out of the basement and his screen is permanently blurred and shuts down after 1 min. of talk time. This is not easy, people. Especially when every other person on the planet whips out their fancy phones and does everything from reading barcodes to re-organizing pantry space and automatically buying gifts for upcoming birthdays. So I dream, I drool, I fantasize about all the things my phone will be able to do. Will it be able to clean my house? Make dinner? Do my laundry? If I discover that it can write my blogs for me, it is very possible I will become superfluous in my own life. So here’s to 3 more months of being me, after which point I shall cease to exist and my smartphone will now be raising my children.
