Yes, for my children, I will chaperon field trips…gleefully, of course ð |
The other night I got to meet up with 3 friends for dinner. Â One has young kids, one is in the process of adopting and one is not yet copping up to any immediate plans. Â We were hashing out our fabulous lives and someone made reference to how I must really love being with my kids all the time. Â Whoa! Â Hmmm…do I?! Â I’m really lucky, I know, and obviously I love my kids. Â And (most days, except when going through horrendous potty-training), I enjoy spending time with them, but don’t get me wrong–when my kids are in school, I’m not going to be hosting playdates just for the fun of it. Â I won’t be pinching your baby’s cheeks if I run into you in the mall, and kid birthday parties will always make me feel…tired. Â As they get older, I’m seriously looking forward to more date nights with my husband–sans kids. Â The truth is, I’m just “not a kid person”. Â I’m a “MY kid person”, but that’s as far as it goes, people…sorry–if I like you, I’ll still love on your kids, I just won’t be randomly breaking into an exuberant version of the Mickey Mouse Hot Dog Dance b/c I hold a deep-rooted passion for kids’ cartoons.
