Somewhere in the lonely days of early motherhood, I found my way to our local chapter of MOMS Club International. Sure, there was the inherent initial awkwardness of finding your way in a pre-established group that you are new to. But after a few months, I found my way to some of the sweetest and most supportive friendships. This group truly lives up to is acronym, Moms Offering Moms Support. When my mother was first diagnosed with cancer and a fellow mom I barely knew offered to watch my son so I could visit with her…when my daughter was born, the meals were amazingly helpful…what truly sold my heart, however, was when I still in the hospital with my baby boy after he was put in a body cast and WITHOUT MY ASKING (or even realizing it would even be needed), these moms set up a meal and care support schedule to get us through those awful initial days at home. I still get tearful remembering this. This group of women is truly extraordinary and I’m blessed to be a part of it. I have talked with other moms who are part of other chapters, and all of them report similarly wonderful experiences. So if you are ever feeling alone, or like you could use some extra friendship and support (not like this is a common experience of moms of young kids or anything…;) ), check it out and get involved. If you’re like me, you might have to literally push your butt out the door to those first few meet-ups, but you’ll be so glad you did…and major bonus: this is one group you will NEVER have to explain spit-up, temper tantrums, potty training woes or refusal to eat anything but Burger King chicken nuggets to, I promise 🙂
Doesn’t have to be this way…join up with a club! 🙂 |
