Completely unscientific observation–mudrooms are hands-down the most oft-pinned home decor “room” on Pinterest*. At first blush, I drank the kool-aid and was mindlessly right there with all my fellow pinners, happily clicking on every gorgeous mudroom set-up that came my way. Currently, I am still pinning away and lovin’ on those mudroom pics, but I did take a second to think about why…why are mudrooms craved, desired, and coveted by every housewife in America? One simple reason: there is a perpetuating illusion that if your mudroom (thus theoretically the dirtiest, junkiest room in your house) is neat, beautiful and in order–the rest of your home has to follow suit, right?
If you can have perfectly positioned hooks for your coats and racks for your boots, life overall must be looking good. And if the washer and dryer are pretty and maybe even decorated with a cute pattern, basically suburban middle-class perfection has been achieved. So I say, pin away, fellow mudroom lovers, find your organized self-fullfillment, or at least fantasies thereof within and go for it–hey, take perfection where you can get it, right? 🙂
*This is, of course, discounting any object, surface, or room in your home that is bathed in homemade chalkboard paint–apparently the new crack of American housewives everywhere…
