Notice the look of pure joy and elation on his face! |
My husband and I recently scored a child-free Sat. night. I know. I KNOW. So how did we celebrate? Yes, we spent the evening ripping nasty old wallpaper off our living room wall. Ah, the glamour of our lives…my husband was irked that we were doing this at all, as he was fine with the original color, and spare time and energy aren’t high in our lives right now. I get this, but I believe I am going through a semi-premature midlife crisis and am just thankful that repainting seems to be the benign extent of my “fresh start” pursuits. I know someone who’s mother died a couple of weeks ago and joined the equivalent of a fight club, so if all I wanted to do was repaint our living room, basically “shut up and put up”, I say…
When we actually got to the repainting part, my husband said, “I think this is the part in the movie montage where we start cavalierly throwing paint at each other and laughing.” I put my brush down for a second to ponder and astutely concluded, “But that would make a mess. What about the carpet? And the furniture?” We paused for a moment and then concluded that we should at least fake-toss paint at each other just so we could say we did have a paint fight once in our lifetimes, real or not. Queue the cheesy laughs and dramatic gestures–paint fight accomplished. Done. Check. My husband and I are just so crazy and spontaneous like that. And we definitely know how to rock a super-hot Saturday night…plus, I love my new living room, so works for me. Fight club membership avoided, at least for now…:)
Absolutely stunning result of my midlife crisis |
