Dicey territory here for sure, but this article made me think about things that people say that ruffle my feathers. A dear, dear friend B who has most definitely logged her years as a rockin’ SAHM asked me the other day, “So being staying home with the kids is a lot of work, huh?”. I laughed, “Yeah, and how awesome is it when people say, ‘That’s so cool you just get to stay home all day‘?”.* As I write this amid my son chipping away at my kneecap with a toy drill, the rank smell of poopy diapers wafting through the air, Minnie Mouse crooning her bow-making song in the background and desperate attempts to type a word while simultaneously steering my infant daughter away from the pile of plastic beads that “accidentally” got upturned from their bin, right now I’m definitely feeling more sacrificial than “lucky, lucky me” regarding our choice for me to be a SAHM. Well, whatever, God bless all of you who get it, and to any haters–I’m figuring I can have a pretty rocking resume someday whenever I decided to return to the “professional” world?
*I realize there’s a flip side to every coin, and I know that the working mom world is also the target of some really stupid commentary too!
