Flashback 2 yrs. ago: My son had his first “real” vomit. We were spit-up champs for sure (seriously, positive we could have won a national title or something), but this was definitely different. At 8:30am, my husband had already left for work. Obviously, being a new-ish mom, I panicked, threw my 8 mo. old in the car and peeled off for Target. Racing through the aisles with a vomit-covered t-shirt, I know I was a vision to behold. Way too spooked to even consider putting my precious baby down for a second, using a cart was, of course, not a option. Cradling my baby in midst-of-battle-fleeing-gunfire style, I grabbed the Pedialyte off the shelf and made a beeline for the register. Shockingly, my son got over his illness in less than 24 hrs. and we all lived.
Fast-forward 2 yrs. to present day. My 8 mo. daughter just had her first real vomit. I wiped her down, changed her bib and put her down to play. Again shockingly, she got over being sick and we are all still living.
Moral of the story: Vomit Panic Syndrome (VPS–look it up, it doesn’t exist) apparently only results from Mommy’s first experience with vomit vs. each individual child’s. Good news for you if you plan on having multiple off-spring.
