The Child-free Kid Birthday Party–and a Plea for an Amazing Charity

Exactly 1 yr. ago my dear friend Rina found herself in Chester County Hospital delivering her precious baby girl at 28 weeks.  After a few really scary and stressful months, sweet little Lena came home to live with her family and has largely been thriving ever since (albeit with a much more than average share of concerns along the way). Rina and Jon (her husband) are my rock stars b/c I felt overwhelmed just having a full-term baby with no extraordinary concerns.

Lena is ADORABLE and doing so well, and now her parents are having a party to celebrate her birth and one year of life.  Rina and Jon are beyond awesome b/c they are rocking this gig out sans kids–I know, who seriously is actually cool enough to not only recognize but follow through with the fact that a 1 yr. old b-day party is about the parents, not the kid?!?  Even cooler, they are using this entire night as a fundraiser for the Chester County NICU.  Through their experience, they learned of the tremendous cost of having a baby in the NICU–lost time at work, gas for travelling back and forth, hiring sitters for other children in the family, purchasing premie clothes, dinners on the road, etc.  They are not only asking people to donate Wawa or Giant gift cards, but are going to do their best to match each and every donation!  Gosh, how are my friends just such better people than me?

In any case, show some love and pop a gift card their way and make a huge difference in the life of some families in some very unexpected and scary situations.
