124 days until our beloved Games roll out…but who is counting? For someone who is hopelessly non-athletic, my obsession with the Olympics is fanatical and endless…Not sure exactly where/when it started, but I recall that one of the #1 things that attracted me to my husband 14+ yrs. ago was when I discovered he was “in”. No quicker way to my heart than when, in our first year of marriage, during the winter Olympics WE SPENT AN ENTIRE TWO WEEKS IN BED–no, not what you are thinking (though wouldn’t that be exciting?)–as it turns out, since we were too poor to subscribe to cable, we only got 4 1/2 channels at the time. The 1/2 channel was NBC, as we only got it in our bedroom with rabbit ears and not at all in our living room. Thus, bring on the cereal-in-bed every morning. Screw the living room, the Spidels only had eyes for their bed those two weeks. Aside from location, the details of those two weeks are foggy, but I do remember tearing up during both the opening and closing ceremonies–lame, but true. And even lamer–I have subsequently teared up and continue to do so every Olympic ceremony since (MY WORD!–do they honestly have to make the playing of the national anthem so poignant whenever the USA scores gold, and seriously–forget Communistic mandatory conformation implications, the Bejing Opening Ceremony was the best EVER).
How can you NOT remain in open-mouth gap over synchronized swimming?? |
Sure, I prefer the Summer to the Winter–who doesn’t? There is more stuff to see, plus it’s sunny and happy, so yeah, count me in. And obviously, let’s be honest–who doesn’t somehow dream about become the oldest most-medaled Olympian in history? But primarily, I am just touched, awed, and wowed by every single story The Today Show/Bob Costas airs/hosts. Their capacity to pull on all of my heartstrings at the same time continues to wow me…in convoluted, drawn-out conclusion, bring on the Summer Games! I am so there–just so rueing the 124 days it will take me to get there 😉

Synchronized Swimming, if only I could swim. I float & love the water but never learned to swim. Crazy!
