So we’ve all done it–kicked ourselves when we hear about some new invention that is going to make someone millions of dollars that we so easily could have thought of if we’d just spent a little time and creativity. My latest horror is related to the children’s music industry. Why was I not the one to realize that you could just start bleating out any old jibberish (rhyming, logic, originality and talent in no way required), record it and market it to children as long as it includes a few happy words?? Case in point: the lyrics to the song in the back of my son’s Curious George: Color Fun Tag Junior book (I do give it up to this one b/c at least there is some rhyming and the educational review of colors):
Red strawberries are sweet
They’re alright!
Orange slices are a treat
They’re alright!
(Chorus):
Here’s a rainbow for you-ou-ou
Here’s a rainbow for you-ou-ou
They’re alright!
Yellow bananas are good to eat
They’re alright!
Green hoops twirl to a beat
They’re alright!
(repeat chorus)
Blue cars drive on the street
They’re alright!
Purples flowers smell so sweet
They’re alright!
(repeat chorus)
Caution if you ever actually hear the audio for this “song”: I have learned that lack of quality appears to be directly proportional to the length of time a tune can get stuck in your head…
