“Do as I do” has to be the motto, willingly or unwillingly, of parents of young children. I have just sort of given up on the cost of the multiple boxes of kleenex my son is burning through on a daily basis. He sees me pick up a kleenex every 2 seconds to blow my nose (I definitely have a non-cold-winter-drippy-nose problem), so that’s what he does too. I kind of factor all these wasted tissues into the price of diapers/wipes/inevitable broken household items that goes along with having young kids, but this annoys my husband to no end. It is also unfortunate for my husband that I am the one who spends the most time with our son, b/c this means our son imitates me (a woman) more than him (a man). So, knowing what you do of my husband, either personally or from what you have gathered from my blog, see if you can answer the following correctly:
When Isaac (my son) pulls an old nail buffing block from the trash bin and starts to skillfully manicure his nails, Jared (my husband):
A. Is impressed with his resourcefulness with re-purposing an item that was destined for disposal
B. Is wowed by his fine motor skills
C. Is horrified
When Isaac delights in retrieving my straightening iron from under the sink every morning and “smoothing out” his own hair (read: clicking the flatiron open and shut in the general vicinity of his head), Jared is:
A. Pleased that his son is taking responsibility for getting himself ready in the morning
B. Pleased that Isaac recognizes the value of caring for our physical bodies on this earth
C. Not pleased
When Isaac begs to put cream on his cheeks, Jared is:
A. Thankful that he is keeping his skin moisturized so it doesn’t break down in these harsh winter months
B. Thankful that Isaac can do it himself so we don’t need to factor this in to our morning routine to prep him in the morning.
C. Wondering why the heck cream is even necessary in the first place.
The answers: will not be given. If you can’t figure it out on your own, probably best you don’t continue reading this blog, as you really don’t get me and my all-too-simple family 🙂
