Apparently there are now graduations for every occasion from the completion of the baby nursery at church to the celebration of doctorate degrees. Knowing this, if my children choose to go on to graduate school, I anticipate attending an average of 19 commencement ceremonies per child (poor Grandma and Grandpa having to sit through that many tedious speeches). Don’t even get me started on my reaction when I heard about preschool proms…in any case, back in my day we kicked it old-school by only honoring 5th grade graduation before high school commencement. This was done in the 70s-style cafeteria by overheard-projecting (remember those slammin’ machines?!) images of the graduates when they were younger, usually in a humiliating state. I so, so wish I could find the pic my parents sent in of me (truly, b/c the pic is hysterical), but alas, I think the only pic I have to share with you is this one of my son from over the summer. I may be crap out of luck with knowing how to celebrate preschool graduation, but I am gleefully filing this treasure away for my son’s departure from elementary school…
