So during a particularly heinous night recently when both of our children were screaming for at least 2+ hrs., my husband suggested we just make a break for the porch, shutting the madness in the house. I asked him why we should stop at the porch–would it not be safer to just make a complete escape for it and leave the property entirely?? He acknowledged this, but reminded me that we could get arrested for child abandonment. I paused a moment, but then asked, as any logical Mom of the Year would, “Is that really so bad??” Seriously, how does confinement in a small child-free cell from which you cannot escape sound so bad right now??
The other day, our water got shut off. When it returned, it was not yet safe for drinking. Thinking about the daunting task of carting two children into the store for bottled water (my son still unable to walk), I decided it would just be easier to risk alerting the child abuse authorities by leaving the kids in the minivan while darting into the store. I did, however, give a head’s up to my friend S, to let her know she may have to come bail me out…any astute Mom of the Year knows that it is always good to have a back-up plan 🙂
