So whichever side of the proverbial Duggar fence regarding their sanity in having 20 children you lie on, this woman is fascinating. I am currently reading their second book, A Love That Multiplies, and flat-out, I’m impressed. Where to begin…obviously, the major stuff wows me. Their children are polite, happy, and help out around the house unprompted. The family lives debt-free. They have an incredibly active ministry and do a beautiful job instilling in their children a desire to pursue a relationship with Christ. But what truly leaves me sitting in stunned silence is the logistics of day-to-day life. Can you imagine grocery shopping with all those kids?! And she does (read her first book, 20 and Counting)! How does bathtime work? Do they just have a indoor pool that they fill with soapy water and then just drain after the whole family hops out? They have 4 washers and 4 dryers, but can you imagine the closet where they keep their winter clothes in the summer? I’m guessing they just have a barn that doubles as a storage shed. And I know they celebrate each child’s birthday, but you’re going to have to be getting really creative with those birthday cakes b/c even rainbow sprinkle frosting has to get old after a while. I won’t even get started on the hours I imagine it takes to find matching lids and valves for all their sippy cups…
HOW DOES SHE DO IT?!? I now have precisely 10% of their children and I still can’t manage. At this point, rather than try and adopt some of her techniques, I’m thinking the best thing for me and my family will be to just move in with the Duggars and let Michelle adopt us all. They probably won’t even notice we’re there. I’ll be sending out the new address shortly.
