A very bizarre scenario the other day…both of my children fell asleep for nap at the same time. Sleepless from the night before, I crashed on the couch for a blessed 5 minutes when I heard it. A cry. Not my daughter’s cry. Not my son’s cry. This was a cry I had never heard before. The logical mind would dictate that my daughter had learned a new noise, but in my fatigued state, my mind flew to the worst-possible case scenario. WHAT OTHER CHILD WAS UPSTAIRS?! It quickly became clear to me–in the 5 minutes in which I had let my guard down, my children had figured out how to replicate and multiply themselves! Doing what any mature Mom of the Year would do, I made a dive for the bathroom, locked myself in and called my sister to debrief. This was a very unusual situation, but given the craziness that has befallen my family recently, not actually that surprising. My sister was no help and had absolutely no useful suggestions for this situation (insert annoyed sigh here). As luck would have it, my husband called in to say he was on his way home so I filled him on the phenomenon and continued to hide downstairs until he came home. Within a few minutes, I was busily caring for TWO children, both mine and I’m not entirely sure what my husband did with the extra said child, but I was just so happy to have had my brief turn with being a mother of 3 (cannot handle that right now!) pass. The natural chaotic order of my home was restored, but if anyone is missing a child, it is very possible they are upstairs in my house somewhere…
