Cue the theme song, b/c we are finally taking our much over-due trip into some sacred territory. I fully and freely admit, that largely, I don’t get it (yes, I am imagining the poison dart arrows flying at my head courtesy of die-hard fans everywhere). My introduction to the inter-galactic world came when I first met my husband and we have spent a significant portion of our lives in the odyssey ever since. I had never considered the impact this would have on our child-rearing until sometime shortly after my son’s first birthday. It was then that I noticed that not only did my son have a Star Wars t-shirt in his closet that I (who buy, wash and put away all of my children’s clothes) had never seen before, Star Wars shirts have similarly magically appeared in every size since he was born. He is almost 2 1/2 and this phenomenon continues. I am sure this is the work of a Jedi knight. Considerable disconsternation has resulted in our house from the lack of toddler girls’ Star War gear (check it out online, it’s true). Then last week my husband reminded me that we soon were going to have to address The Force with our children far beyond thematic dress. He sent me this link, which is truly worth any parent’s time who is grappling with how to responsibly introduce Luke, Leia and the gang to their kids. Hope you find this helpful.
