I love her. I’m obsessed with her. I want to be her. I say this, only having watched the first season of Mad Men. My husband and I only recently, after cutting delivery of DVDs to our home (seriously, what is up with this new Netflix pricing?!), discovered this treasure. Therefore if she commits some egregious sin in in upcoming seasons, disregard this entire blog. As it currently stands, I am in awe. If nothing else, how can she manage to balance a cigarette while washing dishes?! Forget the invitation of lung cancer, I am in awe! If only I could ever look that pulled together and rock pearl earrings during a playdate, I would be so golden. And she does it all with class and respect for decorum. Never mind that her husband is “stepping out” on a regular basis, Betts staunchly maintains her loyalty to her family. Questioning of the wisdom of her willingness to overlook her husband’s indiscretions aside, I so admire her strength and utter commitment to being a dedicated SAHM. While decades and miles of concern for public presentation separate us (as I write this in my 3 day old sweats), I would like to imagine that Betty Draper and I are generally in the same boat. I can just picture her at the next table over at Chick-Fil-A now–both of us screaming at our sons to stop flinging the ketchup in the air. She’s just doing it in perfectly pressed matching linens…
